I received a notice of a security breach: now what? 

You may have recently received notification of a recent security breach from Newcourse Communications, INC. We know this can seem scary and we want to be transparent in this situation. Newcourse Communications, INC. provides mailing services to financial institutions including TexasBank. On January 25, 2023, they discovered unauthorized access to their network occurring from April 17th, 2022 to May 3rd, 2022. The breach included full names, address, last four (4) digits of tax ID number, mortgage loan account number, mortgage principal, and mortgage origination date.

To date, they are not aware of any reports of identity fraud or improper use of your information as a direct result of this incident. Newcourse is offering identity theft protection services through IDX, the data security incident and recovery services expert. This protection includes:

  • 12 months of credit and CyberScan monitoring
  • A #1,000,000 insurance reimbursement policy
  • Fully managed ID theft recovery services

With this protection, IDX will help you resolve issues if your identity is compromised. Newcourse encourages you to contact IDX with any questions and enroll in the free ID protection services by calling 1-833-758-6900. Or, go to https://app.idx.us/account-creation/protect. Use the enrollment code at the top of your letter. IDX representatives are available Monday-Friday from 8am-8pm Central Time.
The deadline to enroll is May 21, 2023.

Newcourse suggests following these steps to further protect your identity against fraud:

  1. Enroll in the Complimentary Credit Monitoring
    1. Use the Enrollment Code at the top of your letter for free enrollment!
  2. Place a Fraud Alert on your Credit File
    1. Call one of the major credit bureaus. Once you place the alert with one, they will notify the others for you.

  1. Consider Placing a Security Freeze on your Credit File
    1. You will need to call all three of the nationwide credit reporting companies to place a freeze. You will need to provide your name, address, date of birth, social security number, and other personal information.

  1. Obtain a Free Credit Report
    1. Once you receive the reports, review them for discrepancies. Contact the credit reporting company if you have questions or concerns about your report.
